This place is totally AMAZING. Matera, protected by Unesco, is one of the oldest city in the world, existed since 9000years ago.This city is basically built into the mountain, and the houses, which are called 'Sassi' are built into the rocks.
The movie 'Passion of the Christ' was shot here.

No wonder I find the photos/scenes very familiar...your photos of the ancient town really looks like a painted piece of art...
The reason why they choose this place for movie is because it looks very much the same as jurusalem, the origin of christ..or islam or whatever you call it...
Try some black and white effect for your pics, or make it yellowish... and get a 18-200 =P
